Conquer any approach! The Arc'teryx Vertex Alpine GTX: waterproof grip for technical mountain adventures.

Arc'teryx Vertex Alpine GTX Review

The Vertex Alpine GTX has totally revamped the approach shoe. It strikes a great balance between the comfort of trail running shoes and high - performance features. This shoe is stable, lightweight, fast, waterproof, and offers great support and protection, making it perfect for multi - day hikes on technical trails. You get a really secure fit and it feels super comfortable on your feet.

The fully - enclosed GORE - TEX lining keeps out moisture, snow, and ice. The sticky Vibram XS Flash 2 outsole provides crazy good grip. Whether you're stepping on rocks, hiking on backcountry trails, or moving around in wet or dry conditions, this shoe's got you covered. The TPU insole and toe guard add extra protection, and the knitted upper stops pebbles and sand from getting inside your shoes.

## 2025 Update

They've added a PFC - free DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment. This is a really cool upgrade that makes the shoes more eco - friendly.

My Take

A lot of people get drawn to the Vertex because it looks so awesome when they're checking out Arc'teryx stores. But here's the deal: it can be a real pain to put on and take off, and once you've got them on, they feel pretty stiff. Truth be told, these shoes are better for folks with low arches and really narrow feet. Now, the stiff sole isn't all bad. It actually helps work out the muscles in your feet, calves, and ankles.

All in all, the Vertex and other mountaineering shoes aren't great for long - distance walking. But if you're just wearing them to commute to work and then changing into other shoes once you're there, then the Vertex GTX could be a good option for you.
