Facebook, Google, TikTok, Twitter Pledge to Tackle Online Abuse of Women improve women's safety
They all worked with the World Wide Web Foundation to test prototypes and solutions.
Four of the world's largest tech companies have pledged to tackle online abuse and improve women's safety.
Facebook, Google, TikTok, and Twitter this week announced a set of commitments at the UN Generation Equality Forum in Paris, promising to enhance reporting systems and build better ways for women to browse the web safely.
"Women expressed a need for greater control over who can comment or reply to their posts, as well as more choice over what they see online, when they see it, and how they see it," according to the World Wide Web Foundation, which led the year-long project. "Women also repeatedly highlighted the need for improved reporting systems, so they can be better supported when they do receive violent or abusive content."
Twitter, Google, TikTok, and Facebook have already committed to offering more granular settings (control over who can see, share, comment, or reply to posts), simplified language and better guidance, easy access to safety tools, and the ability to track and manage reports.
