Mammut Broad Peak IN Hooded Down Jacket review
Yo, listen up! I just got this Mammut Broad Peak IN Hooded Down Jacket, the men's version, and I've got a whole bunch to say about it.
Let's start with the color. Man, I'm really stoked about this color. When I finally got the jacket in my hands, it was even more awesome than in those online pics. I sized up and got an L. And you know what? The sleeve length is perfect. I remember last year when I bought that Smartwool wool mid - layer in L, those sleeves were like, way too long. This Mammut, being a mid - layer, fits me pretty tight. My little bit of a gut is kind of showing, but whatever.
Now, about the warmth. It's got 115 grams of 800 - fill - power down. For just about everything I do, like going for a hike or hanging out in the cold, it's warm enough. But if I ever decided to go climb some crazy high mountain, this probably wouldn't be enough. Lucky for me, I'm not into that extreme stuff.
I really love how it looks, but the quality? Not so much. The label on it is all messed up, like it's printed twice. I don't know if that's some kind of design thing or a mistake. And it's losing feathers like crazy. I'm joking, but seriously, I'm worried it's gonna run out of down soon.
Another thing is the hood. It's not removable, and since it's a mid - layer, I'm kind of scratching my head about how it'll work with my hard shell. I guess I'll find out if that's a big deal or not.
But on the bright side, this jacket uses 800FP dry down. That's pretty neat. The down doesn't get wet, so even if it's raining or snowing, I stay warm. When I'm taking a break from climbing, I can just throw it on. And in the middle of winter, it's great as a layer under my other clothes. And if I pull the strings on the hood tight, it looks pretty cool to wear around town, too. So yeah, this jacket has its good and bad points, but I just wanted to share my thoughts with you guys.
