HOKA Skyline Float X Women's Road - Running Shoes: Picking and Trying 'Em Out
Ever since it got cold out, I've been on the go. In November, I hit up three cities up north, some for work and some for fun. Last Sunday, I was just chilling at home, sippin' on a drink and watching TV. Then, I saw this outdoor blogger on Bilibili doing a hike around the Three Peaks. I got this sudden urge to ask my wife if we could try a little Three Peaks hike on the weekend. I'm a total gear - head, so I knew this was my chance to buy some new stuff! Since I'd already bought the Salomon Speedcross 5 during the Double Eleven sale, I didn't really have an excuse to buy shoes for myself. So, I set my sights on my wife.
I picked out two pairs of shoes: the Altra Olympus 5 and the HOKA Skyline Float X. I talked to the store and asked if I could buy two to try, and just keep one and send the other back. The seller was super cool about it and said yes right away. Gotta give a shout - out to Shanshui Outdoor / Western Brothers for that.
The Altra Olympus 5 keeps that zero - drop thing that Altra's known for. My wife said it feels really flat when she puts 'em on. Now, about how they look... the first time she saw 'em, she thought they were ugly. Looked again, still ugly. Looked a few more times, yep, still ugly! But it's like, an ugly that grows on you. It's that kind of ugly where it's so ugly it's actually kind of cool.
The HOKA Skyline Float X, on the other hand, looks just as good as you'd expect. My wife said the arch support is really nice, and they feel stable as heck. But her feet are a little on the wide side, and she felt like there was some extra space on the sides of her arches.
Both pairs of shoes are really solid. It was a tough call, but in the end, we decided to keep the Skyline Float X. The way it's shaped and the colors just go great with regular pants for everyday wear. But if I'm being honest, I kind of like the Altra Olympus 5 a little more myself.
