HOKA Skyline Float X Men's Road - Running Shoes review
1. Appearance
I gotta say, the HOKA Skyline Float X for men has this super sleek, all - black minimalist look. Yeah, it's got a thick sole, but the upper part is really simple, and that cool swallow - tail design at the back makes the sole look longer. When you put 'em on, they don't look clunky at all. It's like, they're simple but have this really cool, functional style. That swallow - tail is seriously awesome. I'd totally recommend wearing all black with these shoes. You'll look so cool.
2. Functionality
- The Sole: So, these shoes have a full - wrapped V - sole. It's not like the MEGAGRIP with those tiny, serrated teeth. This one has these bigger XS TREK studs. They grip really well, so you don't have to worry about slipping, and they seem like they'll last a long time.
- The Midsole: The midsole is a double - density deal. It's not too soft, just the right amount of soft and springy. When you walk in 'em, it feels great. Your legs and feet won't get tired, even if you're on your feet for a while. They say there's a PEBAX plate in the middle of the midsole, but I didn't really notice it doing anything.
- The Upper: Up front, there's this big part that covers your toes. It's great for protecting your toes. And the upper has these big mesh holes, so your feet can breathe really well.
3. Conclusion
If you're just walking on some small, off - the - beaten - path trails, not crossing any water, and you're not going all out climbing mountains, exploring deep forests, or hitting the snow - covered peaks, then these Skyline Float X shoes are really good. The midsole and the upper are comfortable, and I really dig the way they look. But heads up, the upper doesn't keep your feet warm, so they're not good for cold weather. HOKA says these are hiking shoes, and about that PEBAX plate in the midsole, I don't think it does much. The midsole is already wide and stable on its own. And if you're just hiking, not running, you don't really need that extra push.
4. Sizing
The length inside the shoe is normal, but if you have wide feet, be careful. I usually wear a 44.5 or 45. The HOKA Clifton 9 in a 44.5 wide - width fits me just right. But for these Skyline Float X shoes, I had to go with a 45, and even then, the front part is just about wide enough. I have to use the last shoelace holes to keep my heel from slipping when I walk. My wife can wear 'em with the last shoelace hole open and they fit her fine.
