HOKA Clifton 9 Road - Running Shoes for Men review
They say that over in other countries, it seems like every healthcare worker has a pair of these HOKA Clifton 9 Road - Running Shoes for men and they can't get enough of 'em. Now, the EVA mid - sole technology it uses isn't exactly the latest and greatest, but somehow, this shoe has a crazy good reputation. It makes you wonder if it's some kind of cool status symbol or if there's just some secret mojo to it.
Well, I was so curious that I just had to get a pair of the HOKA Clifton 9. Today, I took 'em out for a long, slow distance (LSD) run to see what they're all about.
Overall Feeling
Man, these shoes are really comfortable. When you're running, the pressure feels evenly spread out. They've got a soft feel to 'em, but there's also a bit of bounce. And they give you some support, too. All in all, I'm really impressed. My last pair of jogging shoes was the NIKE Invincible 3, and all I could think about with those was how soft they were. So soft that it was like running on a cloud, and I couldn't really feel the ground at all. But these Clifton 9s? They're not as soft. You can actually feel the road beneath your feet, and it's like you can just go exactly where you want with each step.
The Downside
I've always thought my feet were kind of narrow. That's why, after looking at the BONDI 8, I decided on the CLIFTON 9. But here's the thing: my left big toe feels a little cramped, and after running for a while, it starts to go a bit numb. I'm gonna wear 'em a few more times to see if it gets any better.
Color and Price
I'm kind of picky about colors, and for me, the all - black version of these shoes looks the best when you put 'em on. And it seems like a lot of other people think so too, 'cause the black ones sold out first on the official store. Right now, if you look on the secondary market and find a reliable seller, you can get 'em for around $145. It's not a bad deal if you ask me.
Comparing Shoe Shapes
If you're not into shoes that are too wide or look too bulky, then you can skip the Bondi series. But to be honest, I think the Clifton series is already pretty wide.
Final Thoughts
Sure, this shoe might not have all the fancy mid - sole tech and layers like some other big - name brands, and HOKA might not have been around forever. But for just getting around town every day, these are my go - to. And they're not as high - maintenance as the Saucony Triumph 20. I'm guessing they're just average when it comes to how long the soles will last. If you're really serious about running, you might be better off with the Saucony Triumph series. And if you usually wear a size 44 in their running shoes, you can probably go down to a size 43 for their outdoor hiking shoes like the Kaha or Anacapa.
