Arcteryx Gamma MX Hoody Women's review

Okay, so this Arc'teryx Gamma MX Hoody is a classic for a reason.  They've got some sweet new colors for 2025 – Sonic Violet, which is kind of classy, and Phosphorescent Green, which is super fun and bright.  Perfect for spring!  And, of course, it has that embroidered Arc'teryx logo, which is always a nice touch.  This softshell is one of their most popular pieces, and it's always selling out, especially in the fall and winter.  It's fleece-lined, so it's warm, blocks the wind, handles light rain, and still breathes well.  Basically, it's the perfect jacket for almost any kind of weather in three seasons.

They changed the name of it a bit – it used to be called the Gamma Heavyweight in 2023 and 2024, and it had a laser-etched logo back then.  Now it's back to Gamma MX, and it has an embroidered logo.

Even though Arc'teryx has a commuter line now, people still go for this one because it's a great value and you can wear it for so many different things.  Whether you're new to Arc'teryx or a die-hard fan, this jacket is hard to resist.  It's so popular, you can barely find it in stores sometimes.

The 2025 women's version is a little looser around the waist and bottom than the older models – like an inch or so, which makes it easier to layer stuff underneath. It's great at blocking the wind, and the outer fabric is really tough.  You don't have to worry about it getting ripped up by branches when you're hiking.  It's also water-resistant, so it can handle a light drizzle.
