Amazon Prime Day
Amazon Prime Day 2021 is here. It’s the annual two-day mega sale when Prime members get exclusive access to some of the year’s best deals on everything, including technology that rarely sees a discount. After getting delayed to October last year due to the pandemic, this year’s Prime Day sales are back to their regular summer slot, and it’s finishing up, June 22nd.
How to Shop on Amazon Prime Day
Be an Amazon Prime subscriber
Only Amazon Prime members can access the deals featured on Prime Day — so you'll need to make sure you're a subscriber. If you find that your subscription lapsed, but don't want to be on the hook for the $119 annual subscription cost, don't fret. You can pick up a monthly subscription for $13.
For the would-be first-time subscribers, you can sign up for the 30-day free trial and take advantage of all the perks (including shopping Prime Day) without paying. Last year, we encouraged readers to start their membership ahead of Prime Day to access the early discounts available and the pre-Prime Day credit opportunities.
For what it's worth, we think that the benefits of Prime subscription are worth the fees year-round.
Download the Amazon app
You can use the Amazon app all year long to streamline your mobile shopping experience, but it's particularly useful for Prime Day. Before Prime Day goes live, go to the "Deals" section of the app, where you'll be able to view all upcoming deals. Click "Watch this deal" to receive an alert the moment it goes live. The app organizes all the deals you're interested in, so pay attention to your phone notifications if you want to grab a deal before it's gone.
Better still, the Amazon app is required when shopping Amazon's physical stores and, more importantly, claiming bonus credits Amazon is likely to offer ahead of the shopping holiday.
Collect bonus credits
Before last year's Prime Day, Amazon created several avenues for shoppers to earn credit to use during the two-day event. For Prime Day 2021, here's what you can still cash in on.
Save $10 on Prime Day when you spend $10 with small businesses today: Shoppers who spend $10 at small businesses can claim a $10 credit to use during Prime Day, June 21 and 22. The offer is available until June 20, the day before Prime Day.
Get a $150 Amazon Gift Card when approved for an Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card: An Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card gets you 10% or more back on select products during Prime Day 2021, along with other year-round perks like 5% back at Whole Foods. Apply now, and you can get a $150 gift card instantly upon approval.
Get a $10 promotional credit with select Amazon Gift Cards: Through June 20, Prime members were able to snag an extra $10 promotional credit with the purchase of $40 or more in select Amazon Prime-branded gift cards. This promotion is currently sold out, but it may come back in the future.
Narrow down what you want to buy
It's smart to go into Prime Day with at least some idea of what you want to buy (and save on).
Amazon devices will most likely enjoy significant discounts. If you're able to, we recommend holding off until Prime Day to make your next Echo or Kindle purchase. Amazon now makes tons of different devices, from tablets and TVs to speakers and yes, even microwaves.
Your Prime Day wish list doesn't have to include a bestseller or an Amazon device — but you should compile some type of list to make shopping more efficient.
The best Amazon Prime Day deals from 2021
Amazon Echo Dot (4th gen): $49.99 $24.99 at Amazon Save $50
Our favorite Prime Day device deal was a massive 50% discount on the best-selling Echo Dot. That brought Amazon's latest smart speaker down to just $24.99, which is the lowest price we've seen and a fantastic deal for this Alexa-enabled feature-packed speaker.
Amazon Echo (4th Gen): $99.99 $59.99 at Amazon Save $40
If you're looking for more power, Amazon had the 4th Generation Echo smart speaker on sale for a record-low price of $59.99. The smart speaker delivers rich sound that adapts to any room and works with Amazon Alexa to become a smart home hub.
Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones: $348 $237 at Amazon Save $111
These wireless headphones deliver excellent noise-cancellation and surprisingly great sound quality all in a lightweight, comfortable design. We think they're amazing and they can proudly claim their place at the top of our best headphones of 2021 list. At $237 they beat their previous record low of $278 by a considerable margin as well.
Sony 65-inch A8H BRAVIA OLED 4K Ultra HD Smart TV: $2,498 $1,798 at Amazon Save $700
This gorgeous OLED TV packs a stunning picture and great sound quality with an ultrawide viewing angle making it a superb choice for a home cinema upgrade, especially at this record-low price.
iPad 8th generation (32GB): $329 $299 at Amazon Save $30
Amazon returned to this wildly popular $299 price tag on the 8th generation iPad over Prime Day, but we had been seeing this price for a few months beforehand. Still, with $30 off you were getting a record low price here and stock seemed to hold out well on all colors throughout the event.
Samsung The Frame 43-inch 4K TV: $999.99 $797.99 at Amazon Save $202
The premium 2021 Samsung Frame 4K TV took its first ever price cut in this year's Prime Day deals - all the way down to just $797.99. We hadn't seen Amazon discounting this luxury Quantum HDR display before these sales so you were getting an excellent deal here.
AirPods Pro: $249 $189.99 at Amazon Save $60
We hadn't seen the AirPods Pro drop down to this $189.99 position for a long time - they've been stuck at $199 for a few months now. However, you did have another chance to grab these premium ANC earbuds for an extra $10 off over Prime Day, before they quickly sold out.
Apple MacBook Air (M1, 2020): $999 $899 at Amazon Save $100
The M1 MacBook Air dropped back down to its record low $899 price in this year's Prime Day deals, after weeks of being stuck at $949. This offer came courtesy of an additional $49 discount at checkout.
Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro: $199.99 $169.99 at Amazon Save $30
Samsung only released the Buds Pro earlier this year, which is why this $30 discount was so impressive - especially considering it actually appeared the week before Prime Day. We had seen this price once before, but the ANC true wireless earbuds had never dipped below $169.99 in their short time on the market so far.
Apple iPad Air (2020): $599 $519.99 at Amazon Save $80
This was the lowest price we had ever seen on the excellent iPad Air 4 at Amazon, and since then this $519.99 sales price has been fleeting. That made this a fantastic opportunity to snag a bargain on a great tablet.
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition: $69.99 $49.99 at Amazon Save $20
You could save 29% on Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales Ultimate Edition with this great Prime Day deal. The Ultimate Edition comes with Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, so you can play both of Insomniac Games' unmissable Spider-Man games on your PS5.
iRobot Roomba 614 Robot Vacuum: $249.99 $211.49 at Amazon Save $38
You can rely on great cleaning power with the Roomba 614 but you won't have to pay a fortune for fancy extras because this machine just gets the job done. With $38 off, this Roomba deal was great for those that want to keep it simple.
